JANE  GOODALL  AND  THE  CHIMPANZEES

Jane Goodall studied chimpanzees and wrote a lot of books about these interesting animals. She received many awards for her work.
Thanks to Jane Goodall, we know more about chimpanzees and how similar they are to people.

THE STORY OF DIAN FOSSEY

Dian Fossey was born in San Francisco, California in 1932. She was an excellent student and she was interested in animals since she was a little girl.
She worked on a farm and loved her work with the animals  but she wanted to see more of the world and its wildlife.
A friend of hers travelled to Africa and brought a lot of pictures and interesting stories. When she saw the photos and heard the stories she decided that she wanted to go to Africa.
She arrived in Kenya in 1963 and John Alexander, a British hunter, was her guide.
She met the famous anthropologist Louis Leakey and he told her about Jane Goodall's work with chimpanzees in Tanzania. Diane Fossey visited Jane in the Gombe Reserved and learnt about her
research methods with chimpanzees.
Later she travelled to the Virunga Mountains in Rwanda where she observed and studied gorillas. Some local people and hunters were taking baby gorillas to sell them and they were killing the mothers and other big gorillas to sell parts of their bodies.
She worked very hard to protect them, she lived with them and loved them, but finally she was murdered in 1985. There were many theories about her murder but it was never solved.

In 1969, John Rendall Ace Berg saw a lion cub for sale in Harrods.
The little lion was sad and alone in a small cage, so John and Ace
bought it and took it home. They called the lion Christian.
Bur Christian grew bigger and bigger and they took it to Africa.
Some years later, John and Ace travelled to Kenya to visit Christian
and... see what happened!

DON'T RUBBISH OUR SEA WILDLIFE

Many ocean  animals confuse plastic bags, balloons and rubber with food and eat them.

Plastic bags and balloons floating in the water look like jellyfish.

Turtles often eat them and die because they have so much plastic in their stomachs.
Seabirds eat balls and plastic, after confusing them with fish eggs and crustaceans. This makes them very sick!
Whales take big gulps of water to feed , and may accidentally swallow plastic rubbish when feeding. The plastic stays in their gut and stops them digesting their food, leading to a slow death!

Seagulls and other birds also suffer lots of problems with plastic bags and so on. You can see an example in this video:
