LUNAR ECLIPSE ON JUNE 15

A total lunar eclipse took place yesterday, June 15. It was the first of two eclipses in 2011. The second will occur on December 10, 2011.

The eclipse was difficult to see in the Basque Country because the sky was covered by clouds, but here we can see some photos taken in other parts of the world.

This type of eclipse occurs when the Moon is equally
aligned with the Sun and the Earth. It doesn't become totally invisible, as can happen with solar eclipses; instead, it becomes darker and takes on a dusty shade of reddish orange. This happens because the Sun's rays are refracted in the Earth's atmosphere before reaching the Moon. The colour taken on by the Moon during the eclipse will depend on the state of the Earth's atmosphere at that time.

The next central total lunar eclipse will be on July 27, 2018.

The wheel carries 32 passenger capsules.

ANCIENT CARNIVAL IN EUROPE

Carnival in Evoléne (Switzerland)

Evoléne is located in Southern Switzerland, in the Alps.

It's one of the last regions where Franco-Provençal language is spoken and the only region in Switzerland where all generations speak it. People of all ages speak this language spontaneusly, which means that the language is still alive and well.

In Carnival, young people wear costumes made of sacks filled with straw and they walk through the streets during the traditional carnival procession.

Other people wear masks representing cats, foxes or wolves. These masks are real works of art and are made by regional artists. Their bodies are covered in sheep, fox or marmot hide, and they carry cow bells, to be rung when they aproach a victim!

Do you know what a Lipdub is?

A Lipdub is a type of video in which a group of people sing (but only moving their lips) and dance while listening to a song with its original audio. It has become very popular in You Tube.

Here you can see one of these, made by some preschoolers in England. They perform one of the best known songs of the british band Madness: "Our House".
I hope you like it and, if you want to sing it with them, look at the lyrics below.

' OUR HOUSE'
--------------------
Father wears his Sunday best
Mother's tired she needs a rest
The kids are playing up downstairs
Sister's sighing in her sleep
Brother's got a date to keep
He can't hang around
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house in the middle of our
Our house is our castle and our keep
Our house in the middle of..
.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
Our house it has a crowd
Ther's always something happening
And it's usually quite loud
Our mum she's so house-proud
Nothing ever slows her down
And a mess is not allowed
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our
Our house, in the middle of our street
(something tells you)
(that you've got to get away from it)
Our house, in the middle of our
----MUSIC----
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our
Father wears his Sunday best
Mother's tired she needs a rest
The kids are playing up downstairs
Sister's sighing in her sleep
Brother's got a date to keep
He can't hang around
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house...
